Food & Sightseeing
Clearly, everyone knows the Schwebebahn, the Engel's house, the von der Heydt museum and Pina Bausch's ballet. But here is a small list of things you might only know as a local.
Hardt park, Botanical Garden and the Elisen tower
From the hotel you can reach the Bismarck tower by foot, which is very seldomly open. If it is, take your chance! From there follow the road along the trees until you reach the park. From there you see the (red) Elisen tower, where the Botanical garden is located. Enjoy a coffee and a cake or a refreshing beer at the closeby Café Elise or Orangerie.
Take a walk at the Nordbahntrasse
A bit north of the hotel, an old rail track was revived for pedestrians and bikers. Take a nice long walk through the old rail track and its tunnels and enjoy a coffee at the former train station "Mirke" at Utopiastadt.
Old town Elberfeld "Luisenviertel"
Take the bus 643 from the hotel to "Wall/Museum". From there take a 10 min walk west to the "Laurentiusplatz" where you can find nice cafés and restaurants (such as "Café Engel" or "Don Camillo"). Behind the Basilica St. Laurentius you find the "Luisenstraße" full of cafés, restaurants and wine bars (like "Katzengold" or "Alaturka").
Enjoy the outside sculpture exhibition by artist Tony Cragg at the Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden south of the hotel. Best reached from the Schwebebahn station "Landgericht" by foot.
